Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Julie Lynn Hayes, author of Bad Dogs and Drag Queens.

Hi Julie, thank you for agreeing to this interview.

What’s the easiest thing about writing?
I wouldn't say writing is easy, but some things come easier than others. If you can identify with and get into your character’s head, then it makes the process even easier.

Name one author (living or dead) you’d like to write with?

Mike Carey

Tell us about your cover and how it came about.

My cover was designed by Paul Richmond, who is a very talented man. He also did the cover for Yes He’s My Ex. Originally, I envisioned a drawn cover showing Vinnie in a dress, having a tug of war over a purse with Benny, the Pekingese. But Paul said drawn covers don’t do well, and guys in dresses are sometimes misconstrued as women, so we sort of scratched that concept and started over. We ended up with an obviously masculine Vinnie putting on lipstick. He has really beautiful blue eyes, too! At the bottom of the cover we see Benny sitting on a purse, with the contents displayed, including Vinnie’s badge. I think it’s a great cover!

Is this book part of a series? Do you have ideas that could make it into a series? If it is a series, tell us a little about it.

Yes, this is the first book in my Rose and Thorne series. It’s about two federal undercover cops who are partners on and off the job, their job and their relationship. They come from different backgrounds, and they are opposites in some ways, but in the important ways, they mesh completely.

Word association. Tell us the first thing that comes to mind when you read these words.

Flakes      corn

Thank you so much for joining me today. I wish you well with your new series.
