Audiobook review of Lord Mouse by Mason Thomas & Joel Leslie

Lord Mouse by Mason Thomas & narrated by Joel Leslie. 5*
BLURB: Scoundrel by nature and master thief by trade, Mouse is the best there is. Sure, his methods may not make him many friends, but he works best alone anyway. And he has never failed a job.
But that could change.
When a stranger with a hefty bag of gold seduces him to take on a task, Mouse knows he'll regret it. The job? Free Lord Garron, the son of a powerful duke arrested on trumped up charges in a rival duchy. Mouse doesn't do rescue missions. He's no altruistic hero, and something about the job reeks. But he cannot turn his back on that much coin - enough to buy a king's pardon for the murder charge hanging over his head.
Getting Garron out of his tower prison is the easy part. Now, they must escape an army of guardsmen, a walled keep and a city on lockdown, and a ruthless mage using her power to track them. Making matters worse, Mouse is distracted by Garron's charm and unyielding integrity. Falling for a client can lead to mistakes. Falling for a nobleman can lead to disaster. But Mouse is unprepared for the dangers behind the plot to make Lord Garron disappear.

My Review: I picked this audiobook because I really like the narrator and, on looking for more from him, I found this. The blurb sounded really good and I liked the style of it on the sample track so I went about buying it. I have to say that it was a good descision and has been a wonderful way of finding another new author I like. I loved the characters, the worldbuilding, and the action in the story and, at one point, I even had tears in my eyes. The author really nailed the emotions and Joel evoked every ounce of those feelings with his narration. I hope that any future books by this author are narrated by Joel as together they made for a very entertaining nine plus hours.

Reviewing the Audiobook See Me by KC Wells & Joel Leslie.

See Me (Lightning Tales, #3) by K.C. Wells, Narrator: Joel Leslie 3*
BLURB: Adrian DeSoto spent most of his time in high school being bullied and beaten up, simply because he was perceived as gay. Always slight, effeminate, he was the perfect victim for guys like Martin Cavanaugh, one of the high school jocks. When it all got too much, Adrian was faced with two options, one more devastating than the other. Eleventh grade saw a new Adrian, one who hid his fears and pain behind a mask in a bid to survive.
Eleven years later, and Adrienne is one of the top drag acts in Orlando. She’s fierce, funny and exuberant. A face from the past gives her a shock, and after that there’s only one thing on her mind—revenge.
Marty Cavanaugh has a particular kink. He loves it when a drag queen goes down on him. But that’s as far as it goes. He won’t admit to himself what’s under that tight fitting dress. And then he meets Adrienne and his whole world goes into a tailspin….
Warning - Contains men in drag, honey! You Have Been Warned.

My Review: I was gifted this audio book for review purposes.
Normally I enjoy KC Wells stories, and I like listening to Joel Leslie, but somehow this time it didn't really work for me. I found Marty a little lacklustre as a character and he never really cam alive for me. As for Adrienne/Adrian the voice Joel chose did not feel right to me. In fact at times it was only the obviously catty attitude of Adrienne that told me which ego of the character was in play. Now some of this is probably just my own feelings interfering with my perception of the story as I had just finished listening to an intense, action-packed, Science Fiction novel and I switched straight to this m/m romance. Some of it might be due to not having read the previous two books, so the world was new to me, without any background to the dynamics of all the characters. I will probably attempt to get the first two books in audio and then try this third one again to see if my opinion changes with more background knowledge.

Author Bio
Born and raised in the north-west of England, K.C. WELLS always loved writing. Words were important. Full stop. However, when childhood gave way to adulthood, the writing ceased, as life got in the way. K.C. discovered erotic fiction in 2009, when the purchase of a ménage storyline led to the startling discovery that reading about men in love was damn hot. In 2012, arriving at a really low point in life led to the desperate need to do something creative. An even bigger discovery waited in the wings—writing about men in love was even hotter….
K.C. now writes full-time and is loving every minute of her new career. The laptop still has no idea of what hit it… it only knows that it wants a rest, please. And it now has to get used to the idea that where K.C goes, it goes.
And as for those men in love that she writes about? The list of stories just waiting to be written is getting longer… and longer….
K.C. loves to hear from readers.

In a world where magic is real and evil walks amongst humanity, a young sorcerer is beset by enemies, both old and new.
Angelus Salvatore is the only necromancer in all of Boston, and his name is whispered warily by the undead and fellow sorcerers alike. He and his brother Isaac are the lone survivors of an attack by an army of the undead, in which Angel used a spell so powerful it forever marked his place in history. Now, years later, Angel struggles to balance his career as a teacher of the higher magical arts, his role as big brother, and a tenuous relationship with an Elder vampire from the local clan. When his brother's boyfriend is used as a pawn in a mysterious plot to draw Angel out, Angel is once again drawn back into the old hostilities that fueled the Blood Wars and led to his family's death.
Leaning on others for help is something Angel cannot do, and while he searches for clues as to who may be targeting him and his brother, Angel finds his heart steadily growing occupied with Simeon, Elder and vampire. Dealing with death magic and vampires on a daily basis may leave Angel jaded when it comes to life and staying that way, but the more time he spends fending off the ancient vampire's attention and affections, the more he realizes he wants to give in.
Can Angel find out who wants him dead, and keep his heart safe in the process? How can he fall for a vampire, when his whole family was torn apart by an army of the undead? Death stalks the streets of Boston's historic Beacon Hill...and there is no one more suited to battle against death than a necromancer.

EXCERPT
“Hear me, Gregory Doyle. Hear me, and obey. Breathe, and speak.”
Angel took a new drag on the cheroot, and the tip glowed as he breathed in, and Greg’s chest rose with his. Greg sucked in air and began to cough. He sat up slowly, coughing and hacking, tears running from his eyes. The scent of fire and smoke was immediately present in the room, as if they were all about to be consumed by flames. His red-shot eyes locked on Angel’s, and for the first time in an hour, he saw true recognition in them.
“Angie? What the hell?” Greg mumbled, clearly not understanding what was happening. He probably didn’t remember anything since he agreed to rob Boston’s Master. Angel narrowed his eyes at the annoying nickname, but decided not to waste time on it.
“Seems you were an idiot, Greg. Someone hired you to rob the Master, break into his place, and steal something here. Care to share?” Angel said, a hint of impatience leaking past his control. His magic stayed steady, Greg’s life ticking away by the second.
Greg blinked, lost and dazed, but Angel was expecting that. Angel sent the smoke through Greg’s mind, inhaling another deep drag of tobacco rich air. Angel could almost see the individual memories flash in Greg’s eyes as he burnt away the fatigue and stress, the injuries to the other man’s brain left behind by the compulsion as it controlled him.
“Answer me, now.”
Greg spoke so fast he startled himself. “It was some dude down at Sexy Femme in Fall River. Never seen him before. Said he would pay cold hard cash for a quick job.”
About the Author
I'm a self-employed writer who stresses out about the silliest things, like whether or not I got my dog the best kind of snack and the fact my kindle battery tends to die when I'm at the best part in a book. I write mainly gay romance, erotica, and urban fantasy, with ocasional forays into contemporary and paranormal. I love a book heavy on plot and character evolution, and throw in some magic, and that's perfection. My current series are: The Beacon Hill Sorcerer, Bred For Love (as Revella Hawthorne), and The Wolfkin Saga. My last two novels in the Beacon Hill Sorcerer won 3rd Place in the Gay Fantasy category for the 2016 Rainbow Awards.
I live in New Orleans, where the personalities are big and loud and so are the bugs! New Orleans is rich in cultural history, and the flavor and music of the City is impossible to hide. Before that, I lived all over the United States: Tampa, Western Massachusetts, Indianapolis, and on and on.... I'm a nomad, and I've yet to find a place that calls to me strongly enough to become home. My faithful travel companions are my dog Micah, the numerous voices in my head who insist they all get put on paper, and the wind at my back.
