Hi Kitty, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current book.
My name Kitty Stephens. I currently reside in Ohio, with my husband, my son, and our three guinea pigs. I’ve been an avid reader since I was very young and started writing when I was around nine or ten. Once I had internet access, I became active in fan communities and started posting my work on various fan sites. Set Me Free is my first book.
Tell us about your book.
Set Me Free is about a wealthy young man named Aaron Ledbetter. His parents have planned out his entire life, including marriage to his best friend, Lynn Rossman. During an annual family vacation the summer before college, Aaron meets Jonas “Lucky” Luckett and is faced with the decision of a lifetime.
How difficult was it to get into the main character’s head?
Getting inside Aaron’s head was pretty easy, there’s a lot of me in him. Lucky was harder, I struggled a lot with who I wanted him to be. I originally had him a lot more confident and realized that didn’t work for him.
Is this book a standalone or do you plan on visiting it again?
It’s a standalone. I really liked the idea of ending it where it is. It leaves a few things unanswered, but no one has all the answers and that was a point I wanted to make to the characters.
Why did you choose to write M/M stories?
I got my start writing M/M romance in online fan communities and realized that I loved writing it and kept with it.
Where do you find your inspiration?
I get a lot of it from everyday life. Aaron has a lot of me in him. Lucky is loosely based on someone I went to high school with. Plot inspirations sometimes come from events that happen around me.
