Review of a recent release trilogy.

The Magic Users Of Greenford Trilogy
by Lisa Oliver 4*

Lucifer Fireborn is a high magic user with a taste for the high life. He spends his days, along with his anchor brother Darwin, chasing the rogue magic users who don't follow the rules all magic users live by. When his brother claims his own fated mate, and can't anchor for Lucifer anymore, Lucifer has to find someone else to anchor for him, or risk setting everything and everyone around him on fire. But there's a problem... Lucifer really doesn't want anyone drooling over him, because that's what people do.

Stefan de Marco is homeless again. Ranking as one of the highest scoring anchors in the country doesn't count for anything when a man leaves his employ just so he can keep his pants on. It's not the first time he's been in that situation, and with his familiar Garrick, Stefan gets by. He was raised in the Trades Sector and he knows the value of hard work. When his path crosses with a desperate Lucifer, sparks fly, but not the ones Lucifer was hoping for.

Underneath it all is the insidious Brethren who believe high magic users should be able to use their magic without the grounding effects of an anchor. They seek to enslave or kill anchors in their bid to gain attention. Lucifer and Stefan have to find a way to work together to bring down the organization, but it's not an easy thing to do when the two men come from different sides of the track.

The Magic Users of Greenford Trilogy should be read in order. It follows the one couple, Lucifer and Stefan, as they learn to manage their magic, and their love for each other in the face of adversity.

Warnings: Some violence.

My Review:  I read these books at the beginning of the month and really enjoyed them. I do advice checking the inside Trigger Warning before buying the book however, as there are some sensitive issues covered in the first book.

The magic concept of user and anchor was well thought out and the characters had real depth, even the secondary ones. The World building was exemplary and the actual magic used was believable. Overall it was a great trilogy to read and I do recommend it for anyone who has a liking for Lisa Oliver stories. Also recommended if you like a slow burn romance that evolves over time has genuine character growth, has lots of magic use, and some thrilling action between the MCs and the bad guys .

Lisa Oliver has a new MM paranormal romance trilogy out: The Magic Users of Greenford. And there's a giveaway.

Excerpt

“Why would I be angry with you?” Stefan was looking steadfastly out of the passenger window. They were on their way to the airport, as planned. It was just their destination that had changed.

“You have to admit the situation with Foster was unusual. His anchor, Ethan was never found.”

“I doubt anyone ever looked for him. Ethan was just an anchor after all.” Stefan sniffed. “As for Foster, we got told, once we dropped him off at the facility Monty recommended, that the hexing case was under New York’s jurisdiction and therefore not our concern.”

“You weren’t curious about where his new anchor Helen got the hex?” Lucifer checked the traffic, and then risked a quick look at Stefan. Who still wasn’t looking at him. Catching Creed’s glance in the rear-view mirror, Lucifer got the impression the dog was judging him, too.

“I might have been, under different circumstances.”

Yep, Stefan was still angry.

“I mean, if my mate was still working as a Wielder of the Magic Sword, which was his occupation when I met him, and Foster’s case came across our desk as an authorized case, I would’ve jumped right on it with you. But, no, my mate told his boss, Ben, in no uncertain terms that he wouldn’t be doing that job anymore. I believe you told him that after our holiday, we were going to work at the Anchor Division.”

Stefan had an amazing memory. “Yes, I did say that.” Lucifer flicked on his indicator and took the turning for the airport. “But this case isn’t being investigated by the Council.”

“No. No, it’s not.” Stefan turned to face him then, and even out of the corner of his eye, Lucifer could see the hurt and anger on his face. “You’ve taken a case, on our behalf, from the one group of people who want to see people like me either subjugated, or completely wiped off the face of the earth.”

“If this is about the holiday…”

“What holiday?” Stefan didn’t have to raise his voice. He could snap out a sentence and make Lucifer feel as though he’d been whipped. “Are you talking about the holiday that you promised me nothing would get in the way of? That holiday?”

“I’m sure this won’t take long…”

“What the hell difference does it make how long this case takes? I’m not some spoiled society brat you have to appease with holidays and gifts. I’m from the Trades sector. I’m not afraid of hard work.”

“Then what…?”

“You really don’t get it. I can’t believe it, but you honestly don’t get it. Fine. Seeing as you clearly left your brain in your suitcase, I can tell you there are two things I’m upset about.” Stefan never used strong language, or interrupted Lucifer for any reason. But he was on a roll. “One. There’s the fact you didn’t consult me at all before you took the case. You reverted to Lucifer the arrogant ass, and made decisions for both of us, never once considering my feelings on the matter.

“And secondly, and by far the most important to my mind, did you miss the part when I said you’ve been employed by people who want to see me dead? Did you hear what they said about Technic? Council propaganda? Bad press? Excuse me? And that’s without the derogatory tones they used when they referred to me. How could you?”

AUTHOR LOGO - The Magic Users of Greenford - Lisa Oliver

Lisa Oliver lives in the wilds of New Zealand, although her beautiful dogs Hades and Zeus are now living somewhere else far more remote than she is. Reports indicate they truly enjoy chasing possums although they still can’t catch them.

In the meantime, Lisa is living a lot closer to all her adult kids and grandchildren which means she gets a lot more visitors. However, it doesn’t look like she’s ever going to stop writing - with over one hundred paranormal MM (and MMM) titles to her name so far, she shows no signs of slowing down.

When Lisa is not writing, she is usually reading with a cup of tea always at hand. Her grown children and grandchildren sometimes try and pry her away from the computer and have found that the best way to do it is to promise her chocolate. Lisa will do anything for chocolate… and occasionally crackers. She has also started working out, because of the chocolate and the crackers.

Characters from Tangling With Bears (by Lisa Oliver) open up and talk to us.

We dropped in on Lisa Oliver's Characters to ask an important question of them.

What things will you never do again?

“Hey guys, we’ve got another one of those interview thingy’s. You need to get out of bed so we can do this.”  Tobias had only got up for some coffee before he’d been sidetracked. He glanced at the sheet of paper and called out, “they want to know a list of things we’ll never do again.”

“I don’t see why we had to get out of bed to do anything,” Kurt grumbled stumbling into the room shirtless. That was a sight worth seeing and Tobias sighed into his coffee cup. Luke followed behind, surprisingly quiet for a change, but he picked up his coffee cup and grimaced when he saw there was only juice in it.

“No coffee for you little bear,” Kurt said, flipping a wink at Tobias.

“See that’s one thing right there, never give Luke coffee,” Tobias said, writing quickly.

“That’s not fair,” Luke protested. “I’m sure they mean cool and dangerous stuff like sky diving or rock climbing or stuff.”

“We can do all those things – we’re shifters, danger doesn’t bother us as a rule. But giving you coffee is dangerous stuff,” Kurt growled. “Add buying honey jars with metal lids to the list.”

“I only did that once.”

Tobias wrote quickly. He didn’t want to see Luke sulking.

“Riding a motorbike,” Kurt added. He shivered. “I never want to see my little bear flip like that again.”

“I don’t know if I can add that to the list. I ride all the time and it never bothers me,” Tobias said, chewing the end of his pen. He stopped. That wasn’t pleasant.

“So this is becoming more of a what Luke is never allowed to do again, rather than you guys.” Yep. Luke was huffy now and Tobias put down the pen and pulled the man into his arms. An angry Luke was never a pretty sight, and surely they’d done enough for the promotional tour.

I think they have don't you? Want to find out more? Just go here and try your luck at winning a print copy of their book., or use any of the buy links in the post if you don't want to wait :D

Book Tour & Giveaway for Tangling With Bears by Lisa Oliver.

Author Name: Lisa Oliver
Book Name: Tangling With Bears
Series: The Cloverleah Pack
Book: Eight
Can be read as a standalone
Release Date: March, 2016

Blurb:
Tobias tells himself he's having fun. He has a great life as a beta in the Cloverleah Pack, and while danger still threatens the pack, he has his friend's wedding to look forward to, and the pleasures that come from hookups in random places. He'd like to meet his mate, just so he's not the odd one out in the inner circle, but it's not something he's expecting anytime soon. So when a hookup just before the wedding leaves Tobias with a permanent scar, he wonders where the heck his life went wrong. Especially when the man responsible for the wicked set of tooth marks, disappeared after the deed was done, to ring a man called Kurt.

Kurt and Luke have been mated for three years. As bear shifters, Kurt has known from puberty that he will have two mates and once he'd claimed Luke, his mama warned him to be on the look out for a human female. So when Luke rings him and lets him know he might have accidentally on purpose bitten a wolf shifter, from some town they'd never heard of, Kurt heads to Cloverleah to sort out the mess.

Sorting out their mating is just one of the things the three men have to contend with. A magic user has stepped up his game and nowhere on pack lands seems safe. When Tobias gets taken, Kurt and Luke are helpless to do anything about it. It's going to take the power of the pack before life will be safe again, for any of them.

Warning: Contains scenes of M/M and M/M/M sex. It also contains a special kind of bear, his grumpy mate, and a wolf that just wants to be loved. HEA and no cheating guaranteed.

While this book can be read as standalone, you will understand more about the secondary characters in the book, if you have read the others in the series.

Excerpt:
“I’m too sexy for my shirt…” Kurt’s ring tone. Luke could hear the tinny tune, but it seemed like the sound was coming from outside. Leaping out of the truck, he glared at the trash can, now filled with his rubbish, before tipping the thing upside down, flailing his arms through the boxes and papers. There, on the ground. Thank the Fates. Luke sank his butt to the ground, tapping madly on the screen.

“Kurt, oh my god, Kurt….”

“Little bear, is everything okay? I sensed your distress. Are you hurt? Where are you?”

Luke breathed a sigh of relief, Kurt’s deep voice making the world seem like a more manageable place again. “I’m just outside of a tiny town, Cloverleah, I think it’s called. But Kurt, I found him, at least I think it was him, because I got hard, and he felt so good, and I just wanted to rub all over his sexy body, and when he came…”

“Luke. Stop. Focus.”

Focus. Kurt was right. Luke knew he had a tendency to run on about things.

“I’m sorry,” he said in a small voice.

“I’m not angry, little bear,” and Luke could tell that he wasn’t. Kurt never got angry with him, even that time when he thought he could microwave an entire jar full of honey so it would soften, and forgot that the jar had a metal lid.

“Now start again, from the beginning. You met someone who made your cock hard?”

Luke took in a deep breath, his cock hardening again. “Yes.”

“And then what happened?”

“He was in the shower, here at the truck stop. He was fondling his pretty cock, and his body was slim but muscled and the water was just streaming down, and my cock was so hard I thought it would burst out of my pants, so I took them off, because it hurt, you know. And I don’t think he heard me, but I just had to grab him, and then…”

“Breathe little bear.” Yeah, that probably would be a good idea. Luke took in a deep breath and let it out slowly.

“That’s good, babe, now, I presume you got in the shower with him.”

“Yes, but I took my clothes off first.” Luke remembered that Kurt wouldn’t like the idea of him wandering around wearing wet clothes. He did tend to forget things like that sometimes, especially if the salmon were running.

“That’s good, so then what happened? You grabbed him. Did you frighten him?”

“No!” Luke stared at the phone, wishing Kurt could see his face. He never intentionally frightened anyone, except that one time, and that was the night Kurt came and saved him…

“Don’t let your mind wander.” Kurt knew him so well.

“I didn’t frighten him, he leaned on me, and he let me play with him, and his cock just fit in my hand, and he smelled so good, like honey and chocolate all melted together even with the bleach stink, and I couldn’t help myself, his ass was right there…”

“He let you have sex with him?”

“I didn’t want to do that without you there. I just rubbed on him lots, and with the water and the smell, and when his cock spurted out…”

“I get the picture, little bear and it’s all right.”

“So he must be our mate, right?” Kurt wasn’t upset with him, that was the main thing.

“You would’ve gotten sick, and you definitely wouldn’t get a hard on with anyone else but our mate – I’ve told you that before. So yes, the man is our mate. Unexpected, but there’s no other explanation.” Kurt sounded so confident and Luke sighed and smiled, even though he knew Kurt couldn’t see him. Kurt knew about so much, and he would make sure everything was okay.

“Where is the man now and what’s his name?”

Oops. “I don’t know what his name is,” Luke yelled as he leaped up, leaving the rubbish on the ground, and his truck unlocked. “I left him in the bathroom.” Shit, had he been too long, was the sexy man still there? Maybe the wolf had got upset with him. He pounded towards the bathroom and flung open the door, but of course the room was empty, nothing but a towel tossed on the floor to indicate the room had even been used.

Today Lisa Oliver joins me on my blog and allows me to do a short interview.

Welcome to my blog Lisa.

Are any of your characters inspired by people you know in your life? How and in what aspects?

Yes and no, and believe me I am not trying to be difficult. One of the key things about a woman writing in the M/M genre is having the characters act and sound like men, so when I am thinking about how my characters react to a certain situation, I often think about what my sons, or my exes might have done.  But my inspiration for my characters comes initially from pictures of models that I find on the internet, and then I just let them talk in my head.

Are there any issues that resonate personally with you that you touch on in your writing?

In every one of my books there is some issue or other that I have dealt with personally in my life. I think it would be impossible for an author not to leave some element of self in his or her work. A lot of the issues I have written about, such as coping with abuse, PTSD and being alienated because of difference, all stem from personal experience.

Was it always your dream to become a writer?

I dreamed about it, but never thought I could do it. I always thought authors were some mystical beings that were above the rest of us. Lol. Now I know they put their pants on the same way I do, and the dream became a reality.

If you could become one of your characters who would you become and why?

I have always wanted to make my living as an artist, so in one respect I would love to be Caden. But, in one of my other series, I have Shawn, Alpha Mate of the Cloverleah pack, has more magic in his fingertips than most of us have hair, and he rides a motorbike. I would love to be him.

Which of your characters would you like to spend a week on a desert island with ?

I am greedy – I have twenty books out now, all with two hunky main characters in them – that is forty men, so I would want all of them there with me.  They would be great company, and it would be fun to sit and listen to them ranting about how they didn’t like “such and such” that I had them doing in their story.

Thak you so much for having joined me today Lisa. I wish you every success with your writing career, I for one will continue getting your books to read :D

Excerpt:

“Holy shit, he has a gun. Caden, for fuck’s sake don’t shoot!”

Sean heard Felix yell and he damn near pushed Liam off the fire escape, leaping up the last of the stairs. He could understand how Felix would want to talk quickly, especially if a gun was involved, but he had to see Caden for himself. As he stood on a rickety ledge he was momentarily stunned by the vision in front of him. A huge lit space littered with canvases spoke of hard work, dedication, passion for art and an apparent disregard for mess. And in front of it all stood Caden – locked, loaded and ready for bear.

The young man looked even better than Sean remembered. His slim, pale torso gleamed under the light, his unruly mop of straight blond hair falling just over the top of one eye. All Caden appeared to be wearing was a pair of jeans that hung low on his hips – a truly sexy picture. But it was the confident way Caden held the gun in his hands, and the unflinching glare in his eyes, that touched Sean’s heart. Felix had been right about one thing. Caden was determined to defend his home, and he looked more than capable of doing it. Damn, if that idea didn’t slam Sean in the groin and hang on.

“What are you doing here, Felix?” Caden’s voice held traces of nervousness that wouldn’t be noticed by human ears, but Sean noticed that the hands holding the gun didn’t waver.

“I was worried about you,” Felix called out, stepping closer to the glass, his hands spread to show he was unarmed. “We all were. You wouldn’t answer your door; you weren’t taking my calls. I had to know you were all right. We’re friends, Caden, I thought you trusted me. Now please, let us in. This damn ledge is fucking unsafe and you know I’m scared of heights.”

Caden held his glare for a long minute, and Sean wasn’t sure the young man would ever move. But then he carefully raised his weapon, removed the magazine, which he tucked in his back pocket, and then walked over to rest the gun against the wall. Only then did he come towards the large panes of glass, releasing a latch, which Sean realized was actually a door latch. What he had mistaken for windows doubled as large sliding doors.

Once all three men were inside of what was a huge space, Caden seemed unsure of himself. “I know we’re friends,” he said to Felix hesitantly – scared, but apparently determined to defend his actions. “I’m not doing anything wrong.” His eyes seemed to catch Sean’s automatically and Sean was shocked to see they were full of fear again. “I’m an adult. This is my place, my territory. I’m not intruding on anyone’s space. I have a right to be here.”

Sean realized in that instant that Caden’s immediate fear had a name – the Black Brothers - and damn, if that didn’t make him feel sick. He and Liam were full-blown Alpha wolves, and his little Omega must have thought that they had a pack, or at least a right to the territory he lived in. No wonder the poor guy had locked himself in and refused to talk to anyone. He was terrified of losing his home and possibly his life.

Felix looked confused. “No one said you didn’t have any right to be here. This is your home, bought and paid for. No one can take it away from you so long as you pay your taxes, and your trust does that for you.”

“Then why did you bring them?” Caden hadn’t stopped looking at Sean, but clearly Liam was included in the ‘them’ comment as well. “They know what I’m talking about. Why are they here, if not to beat me, torture me, rape me and then kick me out of my home? That’s what men like them do. What are they doing here?”

My Review: I received a copy from the publishers in exchange for an honest review. This book (like all the books in this series) is a stand alone read.  I enjoyed this story for all the reasons I usually enjoy Lisa Oliver books. The Fated Mates, The slow burn to love, hot sex scenes, and the happy ending. So, as this only took me a few hours to read, I can't really say anything else without spoilers. I will say that if you like the above factors then go buy the book. Or come back here on 13th April and try to win a print copy of the book :D

It's my birthday and you get a chance to win something!

So today I am *mumbles number 57 through hand* years old and I am celebrating by taking part in a blog tour and giveaway for a book I reviewed a fortnight ago. I really liked the book and hope whoever wins one of those print copies will enjoy it as much as I did.

Vadim D’Arcy should be the Regent of the Atlanta coven, but he gave up his position years before when a personal tragedy had him hiding away in his huge mansion. Forced into a situation where he had to escort a cursed vampire to Cloverleah, he realizes pretty quickly that Josh is his true match. The only problem is, he doesn’t want one.

However threats on the pack, and two interfering Fae soon nudge the two men back together. Fighting other wolves, and even vampires is becoming commonplace for the Cloverleah pack. But a dark magic user just might have the last laugh. Can Vadim fight his personal demons long enough to keep his mate safe, and will Josh be there for him when he does? Or will a combined attack from the coven and the pack in Atlanta bring the entire Cloverleah pack to its knees?

Warnings: This is an m/m erotic romance featuring a sweet but staunch beta wolf, an old as sin vampire and all your other favorites from Cloverleah. HEA and no cliff hangers guaranteed.

Review of Watching Out for Fangs by Lisa Oliver

Watching Out For Fangs (The Cloverleah Pack Book 7) by Lisa Oliver 4*
BLURB: Josh moved from the huge San Antonio pack to join the men at Cloverleah looking for a bit more adventure, and the chance to meet his mate. He’s quick to adapt to the much smaller pack, and even his status as one of the few beta wolves in a group full of Alphas. A chance visit from the Atlanta coven has him meeting the man he was waiting for. It was just a damn shame he was unconscious at the time.

My Review: I am really loving Lisa's wolves and their mates. There is always something new added in each book so they never feel repetitive and they still retain all the great world building and wonderful characters that make them a pleasant reading experience.. In each book there is a focus on the romance of the main two characters but the relationships of previous pairs is not neglected at all. That said can I please claim Vadim as my newest book boyfriend? I really liked how Lisa managed to make him become so much more loving throughout the book without turning him schmaltzy. Although there are no cliffhangers in the book I was still left with a need for the next in the series so that I can revisit all the wonderful characters as well as the humor and romance, not forgetting the hot sex scenes.

n.b. I'll be celebrating my birthday on the 6th November when this book and I will be part of a virtual tour and giveaway with a Rafflecopter Prize of One of three print copies of the book.
