Night after night, Logan is having nightmares about a terrible massacre that happened years ago when he was a Hunter, and he can’t get the violent images out of his head. The incident is one he feels responsible for and someone is sending him reminders of the brutal killings and thinly veiled threats. Logan confides in Nicky, who tells him to talk to his mate, Ian. He urges him to tell the truth about the dreams, because "if Ian finds out from someone else, it’ll be over between you." When the rogue alpha who has been sending Logan the messages tells Ian what he knows, it severely damages his relationship with Logan. Logan runs from the pack, and when the rogue alpha attacks Logan, Nicky tries to intervene and is almost killed. A terrible divide opens up in the pack between those who think Logan may be guilty of the atrocity and those who defend him. Marco and his followers are on one side against the rogue alpha and his supporters, who want to take over the pack. Who will manage to gain the upper hand? Or will this finally tear the powerful pack apart and start a civil war?

And nobody is taking hell no for an answer. Ryan’s being asked to turn his whole life upside down and the handsome Tygerian gets under his skin like nobody else. But with the fate of the universe at stake, how can he say no? Can the two enemies put aside their differences and focus on making love and not war—not to mention a baby? Excerpt:
“Son, are you all right? Your highness…Consort Blake, please! Put a stop to this now—my son is injured!”
“I’m fine, Father,” Ryan said, embarrassed and trying to gently push him off.
“Your son is injured?” the king’s consort said, his eyebrows lifting in outrage. “What about my son? Your son indeed!”
Then as the words sunk in, Blake suddenly straightened up and tilted his head, one eyebrow quirking upward. “Did you say your son?”
“Yes, of course he is! And your son just attacked him!” the consul said, casting a wounded, outraged look back over his shoulder.
Blake smiled then and rubbed his hands together, as eager as a cat who’d just spied a big bowl of tasty cream. “You mean to tell me this young man… Your unmarried son? Well, why didn’t you say so? Who needs the daughter? This one will do fine. In fact, he’ll do even better!” He stepped forward and laid a hand on Prince Mikos’s arm. “Stop playing with him, Miki. You’ll have plenty of time to do that after the wedding. This young man,” he said, gesturing grandly toward Ryan, “is your new mate and royal consort.” He got a speculative look in his eye. “Maybe even the bearer of your children.”

Reviewing Mate of The Tyger Prince by Shannon West

Pride Promotions has a book blast for this book and I'm one of the bloggers. Come back tomorrow to take part and maybe win a copy for yourself.

BLURB:  Diplomatic marriages between two members of different planets certainly aren’t unheard of—but for Prince Mikos of Tygeria and Col. The union is meant to end a devastating war that has lasted for over a hundred and fifty years, but when the female bride intended for the fierce, sexy prince runs away, her handsome brother is substituted instead. My Review: I was given a copy by the publisher in return for an honest review. So a warning first as not everyone likes Mpreg stories and this one includes it. Now I like Mpreg but it makes a nice change for it to be through medical intervention as opposed to Paranormal (read Omega Werewolf) means. So now that is out the way what did I like about this book? I liked the world building (although some might find the info dump internal monologues are not to their taste) and I thought the character were very good, especially the younger Tygerians. However the main reason I liked this story is that the relationship felt right. There was no insta love nor was there an instant understanding of alien cultures. To top it off there is also action and political intrigue as well as some decent sex scenes. All together this book is great if you want to read an Mpreg that isn't your standard werewolf trope.

Reading Sue Brown

I know I mentioned going to London for a book signing last month so you won't be surprised to know that I came home with a LOT of signed books and I had intended to leave them looking all nice and pristine on my shelf but today I gave in to the urge to read one.

Morning Report (Morning Report #1) by Sue Brown 4*
BLURB: A decade on from their first kiss, Luke Murray is more in love with Simon every day. Running the Lost Cow ranch for Luke's parents, they keep their heads down and get along with the locals, even if Luke is known for being a hothead. Then one day they discover the local store owners refuse to serve them. They're bewildered until Luke's mom tells them the new pastor has targeted the couple in his sermons. Suddenly Luke and Simon find themselves alienated from people they called friends, and their ranch comes under a series of attacks. As the town's hatred and homophobia turns on them, Luke and Simon will face a critical choice: give in to the town's demands and disappear, or stand and fight for themselves and their love

My Review: I don't often read books with an established couple but I am glad I read this one. It had so much realism to it, like the fact that even after ten years together there were still things they didn't know about each other and also the fact that there could still be misunderstandings in communication. They also showed that with love, hard work and compassion no obstacle is to difficult to over come, not even hatred from people who used to be friends just because of a religious zealot preaching hatred. (A personal comment here: This happens too often and is why I hate most religious doctrines that can be twisted into hatred of your fellow man) If you like loving family stories and cowboys then you won't go very wrong buying this book, the fact that it has some extremely hot sex scenes is just an added bonus.

I've also read a few e-books too - looks like the reading slump is over :D

Deefur Dog (Deefur)by R.J. Scott 4*
BLURB: For over a year, widowed Cameron Jackson has tried to juggle his business with childcare for his two year old daughter ...all while living with Deefur, a Great Dane who believes he rules the house.
Nannies last a day, some don't even make it through the front door if the self-proclaimed ruler doesn't approve. Something has to give. Enter Jason Everson, nanny, teacher in training, apparent dog whisperer, and the only man who seems to make it past the initial scrutiny of the king. Can Jason help Cam put his house in order and help to heal his heart?

My Review: If you want a light-hearted, feel good romance with a rather LARGE dog who is a right handful then read this book. I loved Deefur and am going to be buying the follow up short story just to read about him again. The story however was really about the romance between Cameron and Jason and this was handled with a nice delicate touch and absolutely no angst. I really liked that. I am fast becoming a big fan of R J Scott's writings.

Reluctant Alpha (Love Slaves of the Alphas #4) by Shannon West 3*
BLURB: Handsome, young Kai is living a lie. On Scythia, male children are “rejected” so his mother, the queen, hid his true sex all his life. On this planet of Amazon-like women, he’s been able to hide out, but his mother needs to get him safely away from the planet, arranging a marriage to the powerful Lycan alpha. Lucas likes men but is being pressured to find a female and have an heir. Reluctantly, he agrees to meet Princess Kai, and is shocked to discover Kai is no princess, but a handsome young man! Instantly recognizing him as his bloodmate, Lucas is still furious at the deception. He mates with Kai and takes him home, but the lies between them threaten to tear them apart. Kai is still harboring a terrible secret—one that will destroy his world if it ever becomes known
My Review: One of these days I will get hold of book #1 and read it. In the meantime each of these books can be read as a stand alone, even though they are a series of interconnected stories. This one was interesting in as much as one of the main characters gets brought up as a female without much knowledge of the world outside his home. The other main character really peeved me with his lack of understanding what this would mean for the guy once he was allowed to be a man. Luckily the story overall was a good one and the second character did redeem himself before the end of the book. A nice addition to the story of the Balenescu Alphas and their mates. N.B. I hated the women of Scythia and can only hope such a thing can only happen in the imagination of a good writer.

A Veritable Orgy Of Reading!

Review Of Scrap Metal by Harper Fox 5*
BLURB: Is there room for love in a heart full of secrets?
One year ago, before Fate took a wrecking ball to his life, Nichol was happily working on his doctorate in linguistics. Now he’s hip deep in sheep, mud and collies. His late brother and mother had been well suited to life on Seacliff Farm. Nichol? Not so much.
As lambing season progresses in the teeth of an icy north wind, the last straw is the intruder Nichol catches in the barn. He says his name is Cam, and he’s on the run from a Glasgow gang. Something about the young man’s tired resignation touches Nichol deeply, and instead of giving him the business end of a shotgun, he offers Cam a blanket and a place to stay.
Somehow, Cam quickly charms his way through Nichol’s defenses and into his heart. Even his grandfather takes to the cheeky city boy, whose hard work and good head for figures help set the farm back on its feet.
As the cold Scottish springtime melts into summer, Nichol finds himself falling in love. When tragedy strikes, Cam’s resolutely held secret is finally revealed and Nichol must face the truth. He’s given his heart away, and it’s time to pay the price.

My Review: I loved this story. It was full of emotion and reality. The plight of trying to survive in a harsh physical and economical environment came through in every word. Yet the love that grows between the two main characters softened the harshness just right. The author had some great lines and a plethora of Gaelic in the book and it was well worth reading just for those.

Review Of Darkling Mine by Andra Sashner 3*
BLURB: Set to solve the mystery of a recent string of highway robberies, Bjorn is startled when he hears the details of the crimes—as though the very darkness comes to life to attack the nobles trapped within their carriages. It is a description he knows very well indeed, a description that puts the robber far closer to home than he dares let anyone realize...
My Review: A free story that had good world building and an interesting plot. Could have done with a lot more story. Hope the author writes more from this couple.

Review Of Konnor and His Omega Mate (Love Slave of the Alphas #3) by Shannon West 4*
BLURB: Ethan is having a really bad day. First he’s required by Lycan law to appear before a judging panel consisting of big, important alphas who intimidate him and make him so nervous he’s afraid he won’t be able to perform at all. He’s desperate to prove himself a worthy gamma, so he can get an apprenticeship, and start his new life. When he walks into the room he finds Konnor Balenscu, a handsome, important Lycan alpha, who also happens to be his mate. Ethan is incredibly drawn to him and is amazed to learn that Konnor returns his interest. There’s only one hitch—Konnor finds him to be a lowly omega, deemed mentally defective by the proud Lycans, and doomed to live his life as a love slave, sold to the highest bidder. He only has one option left. He has to run.
My Review: I haven't read any of the previous ones in this series but it didn't make too much difference as each story is about a different couple and the world building is pretty good so I knew what the background was. I enjoyed the misunderstandings and mishaps the two main characters encounter on their way to a happy ending and if I ever want another short, enjoyable read I will look for others from this series.

Review Of Fate Drops In by K.C. Grim 3*
BLURB: Werewolves and vampires have always been sworn enemies. They have fought battles and raged wars to keep their kinds apart for centuries, but that all changes one night when a young wolf named Connor accidently drops into a room full of unexpected vampires.
A young wolf living on his own in the city would be easy prey for a group of angry vampires. They are older and stronger than the werewolf, but Connor isn’t ready to give up without a fight. Can he face them alone, or will he find an ally in the most unusual place?
Davis has lived hundreds of years in the shadow of darkness, but what good is eternity if you spend it alone? With nothing left to live for, the older vampire is losing his desire for life when Connor comes crashing into his world. Is the handsome, scrappy werewolf worth saving if it costs Davis his immortal soul? Or will saving this young wolf end up saving them both?

My Review: This was another short read but it was rather well written and gave a fair amount of background for so few words. The romance between Connor and Davis felt a bit rushed but was sweet despite that and the meeting the family bit was rather amusing. Overall I think I will be on the look out for more by this author.

Review Of Break Out (Hidden Talents, #5)by Claire Cray 5*
BLURB: The Talents have made it to Los Angeles, but it's more Wild West than California Dreams. Ken starts to struggle with his Talent, but his growing pains are forgotten during a balmy night on the town that leaves Jin with a bad taste in his mouth. Meanwhile, Sky's come a long way with Mark's support, and Aki feels better, too. But will it last when a certain troubled Talent makes a dramatic comeback?
My Review:Jin, Ken and Sky return in this fifth episode of Hidden Talents and I enjoyed every word. My only complaint was the long wait for it to be available to read and the shortness of the story overall.

Review Of Squad 19 - Prequel Volume 1 (The Tisaian Chronicles)by Nicholas Sansbury Smith 4*
BLURB: Squad 19 is a thrilling post-apocalyptic short story and prequel #1 to the novel - The Biomass Revolution.
Welcome to Tisaia – The last hub of modern civilization in a world left scorched by the nuclear fires of the Biomass Wars. Surrounded by a fortress of steel walls and protected by a fierce and loyal Council of Royal Knights, Tisaia seems relatively safe to the average State worker and citizen. A plentiful supply of Biomass powers the cities and food is abundant, but security has come at a terrible cost. The State will do anything to protect its resources, even if it means suppressing the rights of its citizens and deporting immigrants into the Wasteland - a virtual death sentence.
Sasa is one of the young immigrants left for dead outside the safety of the Tisaian steel walls. It is only by a dash of luck the rebels find her. They bring her back to Camp Salvation where she is put to work as a technician, working to purify the camps water in the rain gardens. But more than anything she wishes to fight.
Obi Hepe is the commander of infamous rebel group known as Squad 19. After meeting Sasa he is faced with a tough decision; teach her to fight and risk seeing her killed like so many others, or risk having her run away. With the Royal Knights hunting his squad deeper into The Wastelands, Obi realizes he may not have a choice. He is going to need every gun he can get in a final battle for Camp Salvation.

My Review: Very short and full of action. A nice introduction to the world of The Biomass Revolution. It tells the story from the viewpoint of the Squad's leader and is mostly his introspective thoughts whilst on a dangerous run back to the camp. If you haven't read any of the series it won't matter at all as the relevant information is given.

Plus a bunch of reads that only warranted 1* for various reasons like no proper story or felt like I'd been dumped into the story halfway through with no explanations. Also some of them were badly written too.

Incubus Master: Captured 1 (Incubus Master: Captured #1)by Yamila Abraham, Barbara Apostolico (this was the one that felt like I was dumped halfway into the story!)(Illustrator)

The Vengeance of the Forsaken Soldier by Alexander Wilder (Just not for me nothing wrong with it per se)

Broken In: The Railroad Boi #1 by Alec Taylor (This had no proper story for me)

and two that were so badly written I can't even remember the titles now!
