Recent release Review of The Christmas Oaks by V.L. Locey

When a rekindled friendship shifts into something deeper, Bryan finds himself lost in emotions that a workaholic like him has never made time to experience before.

My Review: I received a copy in exchange for an honest review. This was a pleasant enough story that was a nice way to get into the Christmas Spirit but it wasn't an exceptional one. I enjoyed the world building and the characters but, for me, it was too predictable and I'm unlikely to try reading any of the rest of the series. However it has had a lot of 5* reviews so don't rely on just my opinion. Go buy it and decide for yourself if it's what you will enjoy.

A 'Non' Review of Nightside by V.L. Locey (with apologies to the author)

A man who can exist in both the nightside and the dayside worlds. A man like Dalton Briggs, the tall, dark, and handsome caretaker of the manse Akio and Vincente now call home? Dalton seems to tick every box Akio and Vincente have: he’s comfortable around vampires, he’s obviously into men, he’s drop dead gorgeous, and he’s human. But will the outgoing handyman be willing to offer two vampires his vein, his body, and his heart?

My Review: I received a copy in exchange for an honest review. This is one of those times I feel really sorry for the author and their wasted hard work, because even though I enjoyed the writing, I couldn't really get into the book.
At the time I agreed to review it, I had no idea it was book two in a series and that it couldn't be read as a stand alone. Unfortunately, I soon got lost and felt myself floundering. That being the case, rather than continue and make matters worse and end up giving a bad review to something that didn't deserve it, I've left it as a DNF.
until such time as I'm next in the mood for vampires and have book one on hand to read first,

I’ve always had stories in my head, but a while ago I allowed them to get out and on paper. Looks like it has been a good decision, although the more stories I write, the more I have in my head. Coach hit his desk with the side of his fist. His coffee and the picture of his wife jumped. How she managed to leave the ground was anyone’s guess. Mrs. Lambert is a big girl.

“Sweet nanny goat tits, what the fuck is wrong with your goddamn head?”

“Nothing. I mean, nothing substantial.”

Lambert ripped off his tacky tie and threw it across the room. At least it was just a tie this time. The man has been known to throw skates at me. I bring out the lovey-dovey feeling in so many people.

“Listen to me, you rock-headed asshole,” Lambert shouted.

“They hurt,” I gasped, and clutched my chest. “Your words, they hurt.”

“Yeah, yeah, you’re a fucking riot. Someday you’ll be laughing out the other side of your wise-ass mouth.”

I rolled my eyes. Lambert shot to his feet and stalked over to get in my face. I mean, right in my face. I could see the pores on his nose, he was that close.

“Listen up and listen good, Kalinski. This is the last year on my contract. I need to get this team out of the fucking basement to get re-signed. And you, my cocksure little superstar, are looking at fucking waivers if you don’t get your head out of your ass and learn to be a fucking human being!”

“I am a human being. It’s not my fault that jerkwad is a moron,” I argued back. Lambert’s eyes narrowed. Sweat trickled down his temples. I began to fear the man might have a coronary. “He asked Dan who cooks. I mean, hello? Who asks a gay man that unless they’re being a prick?”

“I don’t care if he asked Dan who sucked whose dick last night! You don’t—”

“We both did.”

The wheels fell off Lambert’s sanity cart.

V.L. Locey loves worn jeans, yoga, belly laughs, reading and writing lusty tales, Greek mythology, the New York Rangers, comic books, and coffee. (Not necessarily in that order.)
